WoW is me…

Some of the natives are getting a bit restless. Ironically, people talk to me more than they did when I was actually still an officer. Also nice to see that things are coming full circle again; the same old problems resurfacing.
Seems like the smaller instances are actually a bad thing. Yes, it is easier to get a group together, but when that instance needs attunement, once you have ‘enough’ people attuned, there’s no drive to help others get attuned. It’s not like you need a well balanced group of 40 players any more.

This leads to a potentially elitist group of players doing the high-end stuff like Karazhan, while others are struggling to get the groups together for the attunement quest chain.

There’s also some resentment about the 3 days in a row Karazhan was on the menu, given the few people actually attuned.

Japan revisited

Had a reunion with some member of the group we travelled with in Japan. It was great fun, and lasted a lot longer than originally planned. :D

Cuteness FTW

There should be laws against things this cute…

The stray cat was collected by a Dierenbescherming official today.

Routing issues

With the fiber connection coming soon (in theory…) I’ve been giving some thought as to how I’m going to hook it up to my network. Most small ADSL/Cable type routers are struggling to do 10 Mbps, let alone do that on a symmetric link. (Most consumer links are asymmetric, with the download speed being significantly higher than the upload speed).

My original plan was to build a small, power efficient mini-PC, and run Linux or BSD on it as a router. After a quick reality check I quickly realised that while certainly technically feasible, it’s still (far) cheaper to simply buy a small router like the Cisco 851 (or even a 871). The mix of requirements is the killer; the Cisco is small, doesnt use all that much power, and handles the required speed with two fingers in it’s proverbial nose.

Stray

It seems like a stray cat is now calling my garden home. Kinda sad really, it’s a rather friendly black-and-white specimen, eager to come and meet you. It’s taking all my resolve not to leave some food out for him (her?). He doesnt look too unhealthy grooming wise, but he is quite skinny, and he may have some injuries, either recent or badly healed.
Gonna shoot a few pics tomorrow and contact AMIVEDI.

Edit: contacted them, they’re gonna put him up as found. They also asked me to call the local Dierenbescherming office.

The sad part is that he’s sitting in front of the door, mewing, asking to be let in, just like your own cat would :(. Really gets to you…

Yamato!

*squeal* (<-- I'll deny this :P)

Just found out Yamato is visiting the Netherlands again in april, with their new show Shin-On. I went to see them twice last time they were here, on their Kaminari tour, and it was absolutely brilliant. Dates are being planned again, and I’m already excited. :D

Yamato is a Japanese Daiko (drums) group. They perform a marvelous act with various types of drums, as well as other Japanese instruments like the Shamisen.

Edit: Some links to Yamato reviews

Rumour has it that Volker Stevin will start the fiber rollout next week. We’ll see…

Lucky…

I was lucky that traffic didn’t come to a complete halt this morning. 600m in 45 minutes for the win…

For some reason I expect burned out wreckages after such a delay, but the wreck removal crews are rather efficient these days…
