Near Miss

Came extremely close to smashing into the car in front of me this morning. Couldn’t have been more than a cm; it was closer than you’d go even when trying to park in a tight spot. I was actually surprised I didn’t hit… closest I’ve been on this stretch of highway so far.

Scenario was the usual assholes at Woerden, who figure that they can drive right to where the 4th lane stops, and then force themselves into the 3rd lane, regardless of traffic there. There was (hard) braking, no problem there, as I said, assholes are expected there. What was nasty was the release and then unexpected full braking that followed. Distance was less than ideal there, because of the congestion there.

I strongly suspect that one of said assholes was upset by someone not immediately giving way for him, and giving them a brake test.

Initial D

Just watched the Initial D movie. This is the live-action version of the original anime series. Funny thing is that while the story is filmed in Japan, the actors and language are Chinese.

The story is fairly true to the series, although obviously some liberties were taken to fit the story into a movie timeframe. All in all I enjoyed watching this one, although admittedly that’s partly because I recognised so much of the Japanese settings. Quality wise, it’s miles above the somewhat similar ‘Fast & Furious’ series. There is something of a storyline, although unfortunately it isn’t as deep as the original series.

B5 poisoning…

Yay, TNT just delivered a package: Babylon 5: The Ultimate Universe.

This is essentially the whole shebang:

  • Seasons 1 through 5
  • B5 The Gathering (pilot episode)
  • all 5 B5 movies
  • Crusade spin-off series

Edit: It’s kinda neat to see the difference in acting between the pilot and the 101 episode. When I watched the pilot eposide was genuinely wondering if I remembered the series being better than it actually was. Luckily the series turned out just as I remembered; the pilot just wasn’t that great. Wooden acting, stuff like that.

SUPPOSEDLY if you’ve seen over 85 movies (or a total loser if you’ve seen over 200) , you are a movie buff. Mark the ones you’ve seen. There are 239 movies on this list. Copy this list, go to your log, and paste this as a post. Then put an X next to the movies you’ve seen, add them up, change the header adding your number, and click “Post” at the bottom.

Horizontal rain, but not just rain…

As the storm hit, the roads were a mess. Strangely enough my drive home was pretty actually better than usual, for some reason. Quite a good show of horizontal rain, too :D.

Unfortunately, as I discovered as I came home, my fence was also kinda horizontal. It was a rather messy combination of being simply blown over and being blown apart. The blown apart part was unfortunate, but then it is a storm. The blown over bit was caused by shoddy workmanship by the previous owner, as the poles were only stuck into the ground for a foot or so.

Gonna need shelves… Lotsa shelves…

As the next Role Playing session will be helt at my place, there is a high likelyhood of people staying over. No problem, that’s why I have a guests room these days… Oh FUCK. That would be the part where my guest room doubles as a storage area containing the boxes I never quite came round to. It also ment I had to kick the plan to fix shelves to the wall there into overdrive.

All is set now though. There were a few hurdles, like fitting 3 meter long shelves into a car that itself is just over 3 meters in length, and the last minute realisation that while the sticker on the shelves themselves say they’re 3 meters, they’re actually a tad longer. Unfortunately, the wall wasn’t, so I had to shorten them a bit. No big deal in itself, but it was unexpected.

Cat annoyances

Sometimes I’m really annoyed by the way Rhi bolts when I make a sudden movement or noise. I mean, it’s not like he has any reasons to react like that.

Cow-orkers

Had a long-ish meeting with some former coworkers from REMU this weekend. Picked up Reinout straight from work in The Hague, drove to Utrecht to pick up Rolf, then drove to Assen to Jeroen, were we spent the rest of the weekend doing pretty much nothing at all :D. Basically watching movies, playing around with our camera’s, catching up on stuff. Was home Sunday at about six :D
